Hue

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Hue ("Hue", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Hue mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

2. Face data — how your photo is handled

The photo you submit shows your face, so we treat it as face data and describe our practices for it in full in this section.

What we collect. A single ordinary photograph — a front-camera selfie, or an image you choose from your photo library. Before it leaves your device it is resized to 768 px on its long edge and re-compressed as a JPEG. We collect it only when you actively request an analysis, and only after you have accepted the consent screen shown before your first analysis.

All intended uses. The photo is used for exactly one purpose: to estimate the color of your skin, eyes and hair so we can produce your aesthetic result — a color season (one of twelve), an undertone (warm, cool or neutral) and a short note about colors that flatter you. We do not use it to identify or authenticate you, and we do not use it for security, advertising, profiling, or to train any AI model. We do not create or store a faceprint, face template, facial landmarks, face geometry or any other biometric identifier, and the App does not use face recognition, face tracking, TrueDepth or depth data. We make no other use of your photo, now or later.

Disclosures and sharing. Your photo is disclosed to exactly one third party: Anthropic ("Claude"), our AI provider, which performs the analysis. It is transmitted over an encrypted (TLS) connection and processed under Anthropic's commercial terms and data processing addendum, which require Anthropic to provide protection for your photo that is equal to the protection described in this policy: it is not used to train any model, it is not disclosed to anyone else, and it is deleted after processing. We disclose your photo to no one else — there is no advertising network, no analytics provider and no data broker in the App — and we never sell it.

Retention. We do not store your photo. It is held in memory on our server only for the few seconds needed to complete your request and is then discarded; our database contains no field for images, and the App does not copy the photo into its own storage on your device. While a single analysis is running, Anthropic may keep the image in a short-lived processing cache so that both stages of the analysis can read it, and may retain it for a limited period for abuse monitoring under its terms, after which it is deleted. Nothing derived from your face is retained except the three aesthetic attributes named above.

Deletion, and withdrawing your consent. Because your photo is never stored, there is no stored face data to delete — deletion happens automatically at the end of each request. The results derived from it are deleted whenever you choose: open Settings > Delete my data in the App, which permanently deletes your anonymous account and every analysis stored under it. This cannot be undone. You can withdraw your consent to our collection and use of face data at any time, with no explanation needed: simply stop submitting photos, and use Settings > Delete my data to remove what was derived from earlier ones. Withdrawing consent ends all further processing of your face data. You may also write to support@makerie.dev to request deletion or to withdraw consent.

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Data retention and deletion

Your photo is never retained — see Section 2 for our full face data retention, deletion and consent-withdrawal practices.

Your analysis results are kept until you delete them. You can delete your data at any time from Settings > Delete my data, which permanently removes your anonymous account and your stored analyses, and signs you out.

6. Your rights

Depending on your location (including under the EU GDPR and Turkey's KVKK), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise deletion directly in the App, or contact us at the address below.

7. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit and access controls to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to safeguard your data.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above.
